Understand How Your Brain Is Wired to Think
Why Use Brain Profiling?
So often we guess:
Why am I unmotivated?
Why do I struggle with consistency?
Why do certain people frustrate me?
Why does one learning or health approach work for others but not for me?
NBI® Brain Profiling replaces guesswork with understanding.
It provides a personalised roadmap for growth — helping you work with your brain rather than against it, in your health, career, relationships, parenting, and personal development.
NBI® (Neethling Brain Instruments) Brain Profiling is a scientifically developed assessment that reveals how your brain naturally prefers to think, learn, communicate, and make decisions.
Rather than measuring intelligence or ability, it identifies thinking preferences — the mental patterns that influence how you approach problems, relationships, work, learning, habits, and change.
The instrument was developed by Dr Kobus Neethling, following decades of research into brain functioning and thinking styles, in collaboration with international academic researchers. Today, NBI® is used globally in leadership development, coaching, education, psychology, and personal growth, and is recognized as a highly reputable, validated assessment tool.
Its strength lies in its accuracy, simplicity, and practical application — offering real-world insight that can be immediately used to improve performance, wellbeing, and decision-making.
What NBI® Brain Profiling Measures
Your brain profile maps your natural preferences across different thinking areas, including:
• How you process information
• How you solve problems
• How you communicate with others
• How you make decisions
• How you learn and stay motivated
• How you respond to stress and change
There is no “right” or “wrong” brain profile — every style has strengths. The power lies in understanding yours and learning how to use it effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
( Click to reveal answer )
What exactly does the NBI® Brain Profile measure?
The NBI® measures your thinking preferences — how you naturally take in information, make decisions, communicate, solve problems, and interact with others. It does not measure intelligence, personality, or skills. It shows how you prefer to think, which provides insight into everyday behaviour and performance.
Is the profile “good” or “bad”?
No. The NBI® does not label profiles as good or bad, right or wrong. Each profile simply reflects an individual’s brain preferences, and every style has unique strengths and contributions.
How long does the assessment take?
The assessment is a short online questionnaire that typically takes 15–30 minutes to complete.
How are the results delivered?
After completing the survey, you receive a personalised brain profile report with your 4-quadrant and 8-dimension results, descriptions, scores, and interpretation. This includes insights into how your thinking preferences influence your communication, learning, decision-making and behaviour.
Do I need a practitioner to interpret my results?
While you receive a detailed report, working with a certified practitioner helps clarify your scores and apply them in practical, real-life contexts — whether you’re exploring career options, parenting strategies, study approaches, habit change, or team interactions.
Who can benefit from an NBI® Brain Profile?
Almost anyone! The assessment is used by individuals, professionals, teams, parents, educators, and students. It can support self-awareness, communication, leadership, study choices, career planning, change management, and more.
Is NBI® suitable for children and teens?
Yes — there are versions of the NBI® designed specifically for young children and students, helping uncover learning preferences, subject strengths, and decision-making styles.
Does it help with learning styles and education?
Absolutely. By understanding how a child or young person naturally thinks and learns, parents and educators can adapt study strategies, select suitable subjects, and create a supportive learning environment.
Can I take it for personal growth, weight management & habit change?or children and teens?
Yes — because the profile reveals your natural motivation, discipline, and resistance styles, it can help shape personalised approaches to behaviour change, healthy habits, and long-term consistency (e.g., diet and lifestyle goals).
Is it scientifically credible?
The NBI® is based on decades of research into brain function and thinking preferences. It was developed by Dr Kobus Neethling under the research guidance of Professor Paul Torrance (University of Georgia), and continues to be supported and refined through ongoing research and practical application around the world.
